The Guatemala SANA Children’s Project was started in 2008. Our mission:
Provide high quality healthcare and education for children in the rural areas of Guatemala.
Since 2009, we have been working full-time in Santa Maria de Jesus; a Mayan town of 30,000 people located 7,000 feet above sea level on the side of the Agua Volcano. Santa Maria was chosen because most of the town lives in extreme poverty (houses with dirt floors and no running water or bathrooms). More than 80% of the population suffers from chronic malnutrition.
The children in Santa Maria de Jesus do not have access to education beyond age 13. They die young from preventable disease like diarrhea. Without SANA’s help, they will never escape this poverty.
Our Foundation set up is unique. We are fortunate to have a donor that covers all overhead expenses. Therefore, every dollar that you donate goes directly to one of these programs:
We provide general medical and dental care for more than 6,500 patients each year. We are the only full-time medical clinic and dental clinic in Santa Maria.

We prepare children, between the ages of 2 and 6 years, with the necessary skills to succeed in school. They learn Spanish reading and writing as well as math, science, art, social skills, and music, including their Indigenous dances. There are 100 children attending for 3 hours each day and a meal is provided.
We are the only library in town and have more than 2,000 children’s books. We provide a teacher to help the children learn to read, lead story hour with special activities, host movie night once a month, and provide tutoring for children struggling in school. More than 600 children visit our library each month to participate in these activities.
As we have available supplies or funding, we help this impoverished community by providing:

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? |
